Welcome new and returning parents and children!
We at Emmarentia PrimarySchool strive to provide your child with the best possible education. Please note the following:
- The Garden of Goodwill was a project undertaken by learners and teachers to beautify our school, and the area provides a tranquil setting for staff and children alike to rest, eat, and relax
- Our school is over 60 years old, and the buildings do reflect their age, but maintenance and upgrading of these facilities is ongoing
- The Media Centre consists of the Library and Auditorium. All learners are able to make use of the library through our very up to date Library Programme, and teachers will be on duty at break and in the afternoons to assist. The Auditorium is for the use of any class, and is constantly in use.
- Computer Literacy: we have no less than 2 computer labs – one for the Intersen Phase and one for the Foundation Phase. Every learner from Grade R to Grade 7 has weekly sessions in the computer lab. We make use of educational software and programmes from a company called Computers 4 Kids, which provide enjoyable activities for the children. The computer teachers also supplement these lessons with activities that are relevant to current affairs – such as the Soccer World Cup. Our intention is that the children draw pleasure from their learning experience in the computer lab.
- The Foundation Phase classes are kept to below 30. The acting HOD of the Foundation Phase is Mrs Van Heerden, who teaches Grade 1.
- Grade R: these classes are kept separate from the rest of the Foundation Phase. They have their own timetable and play area.
- Grade 1: these children also have a separate play area and are never allowed to play unsupervised.
- CCTV: the school is monitored 24/7 by CCTV cameras for the safety of the school and the learners.
- Swimming: this is an important part of our school day. All children are taught to swim from Grade R to Grade 7 by a professional swimming coach. We have a swimming gala in the first term at which we hope all children will participate.
- Our school hall has be upgraded and renovated recently. Assembly is held in the school hall every Monday at 07:45 for the Intersen Phase, and Tuesday at 07:45 for the Foundation Phase.
- Events: throughout the year we have various sporting and cultural events, such as: soccer & netball day, Junior and Senior Gala, Athletics, Valentine’s Day Fete, Grade 7 Fun Day, Speech Festival, to name but a few.
- Extramurals: we pride ourselves on the wide selection of extramurals offered to our learners – there really is something for everyone! Children will be issued with the extramural timetable for their own reference, and are encouraged to attend at least one sporting and one cultural extramural a week.
- Support groups: we offer Maths, Afrikaans and English support classes in the afternoons as part of the extramural programme, and children who are having difficulties are encouraged to make use of this time to catch up.
- School Tours: the cost of these tours in included in the school fees. From Grade 4 – 7 the children actually go away overnight for 2 to 4 nights; from Grade R to Grade 3 day trips are undertaken on a regular basis.
- Newsletters and Chatline: Newsletters are given out every Thursday, and the Chatline is published once a month. Parents wishing to receive the newsletter or chatline via email are requested to email Ms Elliott at elliott@epschool.co.za with their request to be added to the mailing list.
